Embark on a journey through the soulful sounds and rich history of Cajun music as you ride through the scenic Cajun Prairie. Leaving behind the vast sugarcane fields and bayous, you'll venture into a landscape of rice fields and crawfish farms as you make your way towards the vibrant Cajun towns.

In Mamou is Fred’s Lounge, the epicenter of Cajun music. Accordions ring loud by 8 a.m. on Saturdays, begging visitors to hit the dancefloor. Take note of distinctly southern, retro artifacts like a jukebox and cigarette machine, which reflect decades of fais do-dos, or Cajun dance parties. Later, stop by the Savoy Music Center near Eunice, the legendary home of acclaimed musician and accordion-maker Marc Savoy.

Once you reach Eunice, explore the Prairie Acadian Cultural Center, a unit of the Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve. Extensive exhibits and artifacts detail the history, language, music and architecture of the Cajun community — including an exhibit with vintage Mardi Gras attire. As you journey back through the picturesque rice fields towards the town of Branch, you'll soon find yourself immersed once again in the lush sugarcane fields that dominate the region.

Along the route, get to know the area better with a meal at popular eateries. Enjoy one of many seafood options at Steamboat Warehouse in Washington. In Eunice, catch some live tunes with your dinner at Nick’s on 2nd, or head to Sunset to sample the ever-changing and innovative menu at Café Josephine.
