Located on Toledo Bend Reservoir, one of the country's largest man-made reservoirs, North Toledo Bend State Park is a paradise for water recreation. A boat launch area, featuring a spacious ramp, a large parking lot, boat rentals and a fish-cleaning station, provides access to the reservoir. The reservoir hosts numerous freshwater fishing competitions, which attract fishermen from around the country. As on many large bodies of water, wind can make for difficult paddling, but if you stick close to the shoreline you can explore the coves and inlets as you enjoy the scenery. Consider using a sea kayak here, or schedule your paddling early or late in the day when the conditions may be more favorable. For land-based activities, more than 900 acres accommodate camping, picnicking, hiking and relaxing. A spacious visitor center complex has an Olympic-size swimming pool and bath-house. A concession area and laundry provide all the conveniences for a long or short stay in the park. North Toledo Bend State Park is located at 2907 North Toledo Park Road, Zwolle. From Shreveport, head south on U.S. 171, and turn right onto Highway 482 in Zwolle; about two miles later, turn left onto Highway 3229; this road leads to the park. From Natchitoches or I-49, take Highway 6 west to Many; take U.S. 171 north to Zwolle, and Highway 120 west into Zwolle to connect to U.S. 171 Business, and veer left onto Highway 482; about two miles later, turn left onto Highway 3229; this road leads to the park.
