Bayou D'Arbonne Trail
Embrace peaceful Bayou D’Arbonne by kayak or canoe. Float beneath knotty cypress trees, the journey soundtracked by croaking frogs, whistling kingfishers and sky-high songbirds. Paddle quietly, and you may glimpse wood ducks flittering between the towering trees.
Your route — about 1 mile each way — threads Bayou D’Arbonne into the Ouachita River. Start at Joe Bob’s landing and paddle south — just note that high water levels or strong winds make the Ouachita River especially difficult to navigate. Beginners are strongly discouraged from paddling this trail when conditions are not ideal.
Work up an appetite? Swing by K&M, a casual café in Farmerville, for po’boys, burgers and crispy fried catfish. Walk the boardwalks at Lake D’Arbonne State Park, perfect for spotting shorebirds on the mudflats.
