Just a few miles north of Monroe, Moon Lake is a 42-acre hidden gem that’s perfect for a quiet day on the water. It’s peaceful, easy to access and a great spot to launch your next north Louisiana paddling adventure — whether you’re just out for some fresh air or chasing a little solitude.

Paddle across the lake and slip into Panhandle Bayou, turning left toward Horseshoe Lake. It’s an out-and-back route with gentle current and big sky views, best when the Ouachita River is above Pool Stage. If the water’s low, you might need to portage, but on high-water days, a calm loop around Moon Lake makes for a laid-back alternative.

Dive into history at the Chennault Aviation & Military Museum, or swing by Eskamoe’s for frozen custard that hits the spot after a hot paddle.
