Bayou Teche National Paddle Trail (Loreauville to Jeanerette)
This 135-mile trail offers unbelievable bayou views, from moss-draped tupelo and cypress trees to vibrant Louisiana skies. As part of the National Park Service's National Water Trails System, this trail offers multiple access points from Port Barre to Calumet. The Iberia Parish portion starts in Loreauville through New Iberia and ends in Jeanerette. Four boat docks are available along the way.
This slow-moving waterway near the Atchafalaya Basin makes for easy paddling. Lush oak, magnolia and redbud trees line the banks, and you may spot bald eagles, turtles, egrets and alligators, too.
In New Iberia, be sure to stop by the Bayou Teche Museum. This historical site, located in the city’s charming downtown district, will introduce you to the city’s rich local culture.
