Colorful storefront in Olde Towne Slidell

A colorful storefront welcomes visitors to Olde Towne Slidell.

Olde Towne is the heart and soul of Slidell, boasting a walkable downtown filled with shops and restaurants. Located across Lake Pontchartrain from New Orleans, Slidell was established after a railroad line was built eastward from the city.

And there’s plenty to do. History lovers can explore the Slidell Museum, which features more than 800 pieces of Mardi Gras memorabilia. Kids will have a blast playing arcade games and mini golf at the Old Town Slidell Soda Shop, which makes fresh ice cream weekly. Or venture across Front Street for a picnic at the Slidell Municipal Marina at Heritage Park on Bayou Bonfouca.

The Main Street program, in partnership with the Slidell Historic Antique Association and the city, installed a colorful Umbrella Alley on First Street. Stop by to photograph it!

Olde Towne is packed with restaurants featuring Louisiana favorites like seafood and po'boys, as well as South American and Mexican cuisine. Cap off your night with dinner at Palmettos on the Bayou or a cocktail at one of Olde Towne’s many bars.

Downtown hosts the annual White Linen and Lagniappe arts evening and the Slidell Antiques & Crafts Street Fair, held each spring and fall.
