On Labor Day weekend, Morgan City hosts the Shrimp and Petroleum Festival, a celebration of South Louisiana's largest industries — and the oldest harvest festival in the state. The weekend is best paired with a tour of the Mr. Charlie Rig Museum, an authentic offshore drilling rig.

If oil rigs aren’t your thing, shop for friends and family back home. The Frame Shop offers handmade art and culinary goods, and the Wildflower Boutique highlights modern Southern trends.

While you're downtown, grab lunch at Bay City Bistro or Cafe JoJo's before strolling through Lawrence Park. Here for dinner? Sample down-home cooking at Rita Mae's Kitchen. Just don’t forget to save room for a pastry from Sweet & Simple!
