Hammond Downtown Development District

A stroll through historic Downtown Hammond streets boasts lively attractions, restaurants, historic architecture and public parks. It’s easy to see how the city won the 2022 Great American Main Street Award.

A highlight of downtown Hammond is Railroad Park, with shady oak trees, a large-scale outdoor mural and a performance stage. Weekly farmers markets in the park celebrate local family farms and businesses, with a huge selection of fresh produce, handcrafted arts and ready-to-eat snacks.

With dozens of locally owned restaurants, visitors can explore cuisines from around the world. At Streetside Market, get your sushi fix, grab a wood-fired pizza and treat yourself to a decadent dessert. Or try Jacmel Inn’s cuisine, influenced by Creole, Italian, Caribbean and southern cooking styles. 

As with any Louisiana city, festivals happen year-round in the Hammond area. Venture out from Main Street and check out the Brews Arts Festival, featuring dozens of craft beers for sampling, live music and an art market. And don’t forget about the Louisiana Renaissance Festival, with hundreds of artisans, entertainers, demonstrations, food vendors and more creating a different experience during each of the themed weekends.
