The O. K. Allen bridge, commonly known as the Texas Street bridge, was built in 1934 during the administration of Louisiana's 42nd Governor, Oscar Kelly Allen. With the coming of riverboat gambling and the revitalization of the riverfront area, the Texas Street bridge was transformed into a work of public art with neon lights and fiber optic cables connecting Shreveport and Bossier City across the Red River.
