Cabildo, Louisiana State Museum
Location
701 Chartres St., On Jackson Square
New Orleans
LA
70116
The Cabildo on Jackson Square is perhaps Louisiana's most historic site. Here in 1803, the Louisiana Purchase was signed transferring that huge territory from France to the United States. Earlier, the building served as the seat of Spanish rule in Louisiana. Today, the Cabildo is a flagship property of the Louisiana State Museum presenting permanent and changing exhibits. Now on view: From "Dirty Shirts" to Buccanners: The Battle of New Orleans in American Culture.
