Steel Magnolias
Steel Magnolias (1989) follows the lives of a group of women living in small-town Louisiana and working in a beauty shop. Based on the true story of the author's sister, the movie was originally a hit Broadway play before being adapted for the silver screen. The most iconic scenes were filmed at the Cook-Taylor House near downtown Natchitoches. Because of the success of the movie, the Cook-Taylor House is now referred to as the "Steel Magnolia house" and has been converted into a bed and breakfast. Those visiting the bed and breakfast can enjoy the shops and restaurants on Front Street, including the Kaffie Frederick General Mercantile, Louisiana's Oldest General store.
