The River Road tour is a wonderful way to explore the historic homes along the Mississippi River in Louisiana. The route takes you through Plaquemine and Donaldsonville, two charming towns that offer a glimpse into southern Louisiana's rich history. The Sunshine Bridge provides stunning views of the river and surrounding landscape, but if that's not your thing, you can always take the ferry crossing from Plaquemine for a more relaxing trip.

The River Road was once home to some of the wealthiest planters in the South, and the stunning properties along the way reflect their opulence. While some homes are not open to the public, they are still worth admiring from the outside. However, you can take a tour at the magnificent Nottoway Plantation in White Castle, where you can explore the lush gardens and learn about the history of the home.

Another highlight of the River Road tour is the Houmas House Plantation and Gardens in Darrow, which offers not only beautiful gardens but also excellent dining options and unique browsing experiences. Although located on private property, there are several other notable homes along the way, including Ashland-Belle Helene, L'Hermitage, Bocage, Mulberry Grove, and Tally Ho.Immerse yourself in the architectural beauty of these homes and get lost in the history that surrounds them.
