Brown pelicans dive into the water, seagulls appear to float on the wind above the shore and crabs scamper out of reach: Grand Isle State Park is a natural haven for paddling and deep-see saltwater fishing. Ride the swells and watch for dolphins on this beach ridge created by the Gulf of Mexico’s waves. When you’re ready to take a break, you'll find plenty of picnic areas nearby.

If a picnic’s not on the agenda, consider one of Grand Isle’s many delicious seafood restaurants. Trailing across Louisiana’s shoreline, the waterway offers catches as fresh as they come. Stop by Hurricane Hole or Bride Side Marina for meals like spiced redfish and polenta, fried catfish and chargrilled oysters.
