In 1854, Dr. H.C. Thweatt and William E. Doty visited DeSoto Parish and saw the need for an institution of higher learning for young women. The Mansfield Female College opened the next year offering a rigorous curriculum of foreign language, science. and art. During the Civil War, the college served as a hospital for soldiers wounded in the Battle of Mansfield. The college continued to educate students until it closed in 1930.Call for hours of operation.
