The Best of Me

Adapted from a Nicholas Sparks novel of the same name, The Best of Me tells the story of a pair of high school sweethearts brought back together by tragedy. The story is set in North Carolina, but it’s really Morgan City that gives the location its charm. From the tree-lined streets to the brick high school, the familiar story of star-crossed lovers takes on a rich Southern feel well-known to fans of the author. One of the most well-known landmarks in Morgan City, the “Mr. Charlie” oil rig, even has a cameo in the movie, playing the Gulf oil rig on which the male lead, Dawson (played by James Marsden), works and is almost killed. Pop by to see “Mr. Charlie” at the International Petroleum Museum & Exposition on the riverfront. It’s the only place in the world where the general public can walk aboard an authentic offshore drilling rig, while learning about the oil industry along the Gulf Coast.
