Red
When Bruce Willis’ Frank Moses checks on his friend Joe Matheson (played by Morgan Freeman) in RED, he’s found in a lovely retirement home in New Orleans. The building – closed at the time of filming – was originally a former children’s asylum established in 1861 by local philanthropist Margaret Haughery. The stately brick-and-ironwork structure now has a new life as the Hotel Saint Vincent, located in the Lower Garden District. The hotel offers fine dining, live music, and close proximity to both Magazine Street and the French Quarter. Just a couple of blocks away is Margaret Place, an area dedicated to Haughery and her work with orphans in the New Orleans area. Within the park is a monument to her, notable as being the second public monument in the country erected in honor of a woman.
