The Blob is a 1988 American science-fiction horror film, a remake of the 1958 classic about a deadly blob from another planet which lands in Arborville, a tiny California town. The strange, gelatinous substance melts the flesh of any living creatures in its path. The deadly substance gets into the town's sewer system, where it begins growing uncontrollably, occasionally emerging to feast on unsuspecting townspeople. Teenagers attempt without success to warn the townspeople, who refuse to take them seriously. The film was written and directed by Chuck Russell, co-written with Frank Darabont, and starred Shawnee Smith, Kevin Dillon, Donovan Leitch, Jeffrey DeMunn, Candy Clark and Joe Seneca.

Although the movie takes place in Arborville, California, filmmakers chose to shoot the film in downtown Abbeville. Specific locations included Vermillion Catholic High School at 425 Park Avenue; Magdalene Square; Abbeville courthouse and Frank’s Theater.
