St. Landry Catholic Church, officially founded in 1770, is the second oldest church parish in the Lafayette Catholic Diocese. The current edifice was designed by Opelousas architect, Tilghman George Chachere, Sr. in 1909 in a Gothic form with Romanesque motifs. Here, you can learn the story of Lieutenant Father Joseph Verbis Lafleur and his time as a POW during WWII. Guided tours are available for groups and individuals by appointment. During the second and third weekends of October, stop by to see re-enactors in period costume portray historic local figures during the Cemetery Tours and Historical Reenactments.
