92nd Annual Grand Isle International Tarpon Rodeo
The oldest fishing tournament in the United States returns July 23-25, 2020.
With summer temperatures on the rise, it’s the perfect time to head out to the 92nd Grand Isle International Tarpon Rodeo in Jefferson Parish. The rodeo is held annually on the last weekend of July and offers some of the best Louisiana fishing, food and family fun. By day, anglers of all levels compete to see who can catch the biggest fish; by night, top-notch musical acts entertain fishermen and visitors alike.
Join in on the fun during this three-day event, which includes the oldest saltwater fishing rodeo in the United States. The fishing begins at daylight on Friday, July 23, followed by boiled shrimp that night at the Rodeo President’s Welcome Party. Throughout the weekend, join hundreds of other anglers in trying your hand at catching a prize-winning fish, until Saturday night when the rodeo awards are presented. For those not interested in casting a line, there are plenty of other activities to explore, such as watching the children’s crab races, sampling some of the best Louisiana seafood and dancing along to live music.
There’s more to explore in Grand Isle outside of the Tarpon Rodeo this summer. Spend a weekend away camping at Grand Isle State Park where you’ll find a number of ways to get outside. Splash in the surf, hike one of the trails or go crabbing. This barrier island is also home to several species of birds, such as seabirds, spoonbills and other shorebirds.
