The terrain in this almost 6,000-acre wildlife management area consists of rugged hills, bluffs and ravines. Three separate trails, each an out-and-back of about two miles, branch off the main gravel road. The area – northwest of St. Francisville – lies at the southern end of the Loess Blufflands escarpment that follows the east bank of the Mississippi River. Thick stands of upland hardwoods and steep hills create a lush environment, while high banks can create tunnel-like atmospheres along the route. This land is home to area-specific birds, so listen for their calls along the way.

While you're near St. Francisville, be sure to explore local attractions such as Afton Villa Gardens, where you can tour, dine or plan a stay.
