Get a taste of life on the Mississippi as it was in the 1800s with the St. Francisville to Morganza ride. On this out-and-back ride, you’ll cross the Mississippi River on a ferry, and then follow the levee along the outskirts of New Roads. Several historic points of interest face the levee such as old churches, historic homes and remnants of slave quarters.

Morganza, a village of 600 people, is a farming community and widely known as a hunting and fishing paradise. Since this trip is “out and back,” follow your route back to the ferry, or maybe veer into New Roads for a visit to some of the shops and historic sites along beautiful False River.

Later, be sure to explore the Audubon State Historic Site, where acclaimed ornithologist and French-American artist John James Audubon created portions of his series Birds of America. Explore other notable attractions in the area such as The Myrtles Plantation, where you can dine, tour and stay.
