Where to Eat in New Iberia
Bon Creole
A local New Iberia favorite, Bon Creole dishes out overstuffed po-boys, seafood baskets, home-cooked plate lunches and boiled crawfish seasonally. They produce and sell Bowfin Caviar. The hole-in-the-wall eatery is a favorite lunch spot of Dave Robicheaux (author James Lee Burke’s famous Cajun detective).
Jane’s Seafood & Chinese Restaurant
Jane’s Seafood & Chinese blends cultural diversity with Southern hospitality. They serve up boiled and fried seafood in a casual, family-friendly atmosphere, as well as a variety of Chinese dishes like their famous fried rice. The nightly line of locals in front of the eatery tells you how good the food is. Great place for boiled crawfish in season and specialty martinis.
Café Jefferson
The owners of Jefferson Island's Rip Van Winkle Gardens take great care in concocting delicious Cajun and Creole dishes featuring local ingredients, especially seafood. No fried food here, but sensational bisque, gumbo, étouffée, sauce piquante and homemade desserts will satisfy your cravings. Enjoy a relaxing lunch under ancient moss-draped live oaks overlooking Lake Peigneur. Owner Mike Richard recommends the seafood cream bisque featuring Louisiana crawfish, lump crab meat and shrimp, and their signature cocktail, the Sunset Peigneur.
R&M’s Boiling Point
Since 1981, the Romero and Maturin families have been Acadiana’s first choice for fresh, local seafood. The extensive menu at R&M’s includes dishes prepared with a Cajun flair highlighting the perfect combination of spices designed to delight your taste buds. Try this spot for boiled crawfish and crabs while in season — and their Triple Chocolate Cake is out of this world.
Church Alley Cafe & Bistro
Church Alley Cafe & Bistro, located in historic downtown New Iberia, blends the charm of its 19th-century building with modern culinary flair. It serves as a cozy gathering place offering artisan coffee (think bayou boba refreshers), homemade pastries and inventive Southern-inspired dishes like twice-baked grits. It’s a local favorite where history and flavor come together.
