Ebenezer Baptist Church
Ebenezer Baptist Church is the only church in the city of Bogalusa that authorized and permitted Civil Rights leaders to hold activism and community meetings during the 1960s. Gail Jenkins, noted African American woman and civil rights leader, was a member of this church.
The Greater Ebenezer Baptist Church supported community and civil rights activities prior to the Civil Rights Movement — and continues to open its doors to grassroots activists today. As news media described, “Freedom Songs at the Ebenezer Baptist Church inspired unity and heroic leaders articulated to overflowed audiences.” This historic landmark enabled a turning point in American history.
