Six miles east of Slidell sits the Pearl River Wildlife Management Area, a lush, forested greenspace with deer, rabbits, turkey and waterfowl. Its many streams and bayous support endless fishing and paddling adventures suited for both novice and seasoned paddlers. The water is calm and shallow, winding through some of the most scenic, quiet stretches of St. Tammany Parish.

If adventure calls, tour St. Tammany by land, too. The 31-mile Tammany Trace bike trail winds through five quaint communities: Covington, Abita Springs, Mandeville, Lacombe and Slidell. The trace runs to Fontainebleau State Park, a gorgeous campground on the banks of Lake Pontchartrain, where you can sleep beneath the stars.
