Paddle your way through the heart of Monroe on Bayou DeSiard — a tranquil, tree-lined waterway that winds through Ouachita Parish. This scenic route flows past the University of Louisiana at Monroe (ULM) campus and the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine, offering a serene and accessible paddling experience for visitors of all skill levels.

You can hit the water from spots like ULM or Catahoula’s, or launch from Connerly’s Landing for just $4 (payment envelopes are available on-site). This is an easygoing, out-and-back paddle with almost no current — great for beginners or anyone just looking to unwind. The bayou is typically calm year-round and can be paddled comfortably in good weather, especially during the spring, summer and fall months.

Make some time to explore downtown Monroe. You’ll find local art at the Masur Museum and hands-on fun at the Northeast Louisiana Children’s Museum, plus great eats and craft brews at Flying Tiger Brewery.
