Springhill Main Street
Pine trees still line the roads going through Springhill, a reminder of the town’s original name of “Piney Woods” when settlers arrived in the early 1800s. The abundance of pine trees in the area led to the town’s growth in the 1940s and ‘50s due to the timber industry. Today, Springhill is less of a timber town and its Main Street is pedestrian friendly with charming boutiques and restaurants.
North Louisiana is probably one of the last places you’d think you find sweet potato curry, baba ganoush or crispy tofu with maple soy glaze. But GG's Coffee Shop, owned and operated by French Culinary Institute-trained Chef Sherry Bromberg features impressive international cuisine options for a small town. They’re known for weekend brunches, but offer tasty lunch entrees and locally made desserts.
In this day of multiplexes and IMAX® screens, a single screen theater is a true novelty. And the Spring Theatre is the largest one in the state of Louisiana! This theater was built in 1946; and while it suffered a fire and a several-year-closure over the past few decades, it has been restored and shows movies from the top ten box office.
Just off the Main Street corridor, the town’s Community Activities Center holds the monthly Springhill’s Piney Woods Jamboree. Local musicians get your feet tapping and comedians will have you roaring with laughter at this family-friendly event.
If you happen to be in the area during the fall, experience a bit of Americana with a parade down Main Street kicking off the weekend activities of the Springhill Rodeo, held annually in September. The largest PRCA rodeo in the state of Louisiana and the longest consecutive running rodeo in Louisiana – more than 70 years – features roping, bareback riding, barrel racing and more.
