Kenner Rivertown Main Street
On the Mississippi River — just outside of New Orleans — are the twelve blocks that make up Kenner Rivertown, studded with carefully replicated turn-of-the-century buildings. A central feature of the riverfront area is LaSalle’s Landing, believed to be the spot French explorer
René-Robert Cavelier (Sieur de La Salle) first arrived in Louisiana. Another first is commemorated at the landing: You’ll see statues of two boxers who fought in the first World Heavyweight Championship prize fight in 1870.
When you're ready to zoom into the present, Kenner Rivertown delivers. The Kenner Planetarium and Space Science Complex has a life-size prototype of the International Space Station, and you’ll be dazzled by the astronomical laser shows at the Megadome theater. Ready to eat? Try the Ground Pat’i for hand-crafted burgers, Gendusa's Italian Market for authentic scratch pasta. If it’s brunch you’re craving, try the cozy Debbie on the Levee, known for homemade syrups and doberge cakes.
Visit the city on Fridays for the free Music in the Park series, or visit during Carnival. On Lundi Gras, a must-see event takes place: The courts of the krewes of Zulu and Argus meet here in elaborate handmade costumes. The day’s festivities end in a second line, of course, and you are welcome to join in.
