One of many south Louisiana towns located on Bayou Teche, Franklin was a major sugar port during the early-to-mid 1800s. While the area’s architecture primarily reflects the large number of English settlers that came to the area during this time, many French, Acadian, German, Dutch and Irish people also settled there. Even if you don’t get a chance to stop in at some of the historic homes, the distinctive lampposts lining Main Street will provide an old-world vibe for your visit.

After catching a live performance at the Teche Theatre, pop into the Lamp Station Ice Cream Shoppe for some good old fashioned burgers and fries, accompanied by a seasonal ice cream float.

If you’re looking for something a little more hands-on, schedule a candle making class and create your own custom-scented candle with FIFOLET Candle Makers. Or bring your kayak and paddle down the Teche, hopping in at the dock just one block off Main Street.

And don’t forget to check out some boutique shopping at The French Door or Chic & Shabby for that “must-have” accessory or a new piece of home décor.
