Greyhound, adapted from C.S. Forester’s 1995 novel “The Good Shepherd,” follows a naval commander as he escorts a merchant ship convoy across the Atlantic in 1942. The U.S. had just entered World War II and U-boats stalk the convoy; the commander – dealing with his first cross-Atlantic command – has to deal with the enemy, the elements, and his own self-doubts. Greyhound stars Tom Hanks, Elisabeth Shue, Stephen Graham, Rob Morgan, and Michael Benz. Much of the action was filmed on the USS Kidd, located in downtown Baton Rouge. The project used the bridge and wardroom inside the ship, as well as the exterior decks. The USS Kidd has a storied history, being one of only four Fletcher-class destroyers still in existence and having served in World War II and the Korean War. Now located in downtown Baton Rouge, the ship and museum honors veterans of all branches of service.
