Kenner Italian Heritage Festival
Location
The Kenner Italian Heritage Festival was started over 20 years ago, in Kenner's historic Rivertown, to celebrate the best aspects of the Italian community that immigrated to the New Orleans area in the late 1800's. A large portion of the immigrants to settle in the Kenner area were Sicilian immigrants who were primarily farmers and bought land in Kenner where they produced vegetables like beans, peas, tomatoes, zucchini and eggplant just to name a few. They shipped their produce by rail from Kenner to the New Orleans French Market and all across the country. We honor these traditions by bringing in some of the area’s most mouth-watering dishes from local restaurants and a vast assortment of goods created by some very talented artists and crafters.
Each year we have a genealogical center staffed by experts who help our guests find not only their Italian roots, but all those family roots they might have. We feature one of the best musical line-ups with acts such as Lena Prima, the Chee-Weez, the Molly Ringwalds, the Victory Belles and we bring in Italian vocalist from New York, Vanessa Racca who has excted crowds young and old. This Kenner Italian Heriage is a family-friendly event bringing in visitors from all over to Kenner making the event just like a big family reunion. We welcome everyone and celebrate by sharing our culture with all.
