Houma-Thibodaux-Grand Isle Area

Houma-Thibodaux-Grand Isle Area

Located in the south eastern part of the state, this area is in the heart of Louisiana's wetlands.

Houma, Thibodaux, Grand Isle and the surrounding towns are vibrant with Cajun culture, food, music and fun to be found throughout this incredibly beautiful area of Louisiana. Outdoor adventures are a highlight of the things to do in the area. Take advantage of world-class fishing with easy access to inland or offshore fishing. Birding and nature walks will get you close-up views of the wildlife. Look for blue-winged teal and Caspian terns along a section of America’s Wetland Birding Trail.

In the Thibodaux area, visit the Wetlands Acadian Cultural Center to learn more about the Cajun culture and influence in the area. In Houma, consider stops at the Bayou Terrebonne Waterlife Museum, Southdown Plantation House, the Terrebonne Museum and the Terrebonne Folklife Culture Center. Don't miss the annual Golden Meadow-Fourchon International Tarpon Rodeo at Port Fourchon, and just up the road is Grand Isle State Park where you can fish, walk the beaches and take in some beautiful sunsets from the waterside restaurants. In October, head to Chackbay for the Louisiana Gumbo Festival.
